Once in a while an artist comes along that truly is able to seamlessly combine talent, beauty and creativity. In these days of custom-made teen stars and over-produced talent not quite ready for prime time, it is refreshing to see someone who does not mind taking her time to savor the journey to success. Singer-dancer Ardina Lockhart is such an artist. Many have likened her voice to that of singers like Whitney Houston, Oleta Adams and Lauren Hill.
Since graduating from Dallas' award-winning Arts Magnet High School, she has shared the stage with countless success stories in the entertainment world. They include performances with members of Grammy Award-winning GODS Property, pianist Roger Boykin, New Art 6, Fingerprints and others. She has also toured as a featured vocalist with saxophonist Shelley Carrol (Shelley Carrol Quintet). Ardina's sultry vocals can be heard on Fingerprints' latest CD, DNA.
Her journey to success did not begin with these lofty accomplishments. Ms. Lockhart had classical vocal training at age 7 and performed in a chorus with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at age 11. She wanted to be an opera singer early on, but interest in dance and theater lead her down a much different path. Although a dance major in high school, she lent her voice to the Lab Singers at Booker T. Washington High School. After graduating from high school and attending Texas Woman's University, Ardina won first runner-up in the 1999 Miss Dallas Pageant. She was also the overall winner in the talent competition of the pageant. This exposure led to countless appearances, including performances on KDFW – Fox 4 Good Day Dallas as well as singing the star-spangled Banner at Reunion Arena for several Dallas Mavericks games.
Currently Ardina has her sights set on even higher goals and is in production of her debut CD release. Soon, many will know of this unique voice and personality. It may sound new, but she is no overnight sensation.
